This is a VERY moving book of poems about a young girl’s trip from a war-ridden Saigon to a new country full of strange things; nightgowns, Church, deep-fried chicken, and worst of all, dry, sugary, not-at-all fresh, papaya slices, so different from the fresh, juicy papaya from her papaya tree. Only the bitter-sweet memories of her home help her to cope with this new way of life.

I enjoy the parts in the book  where she is learning with Mrs.Washington. I enjoy the dedication  “To the millions of refugees in the world, may each of you find a home”so awe-inspiring! I love the format of the book. I feel that putting the book into poems really express the feelings and it is so unique! I love it.

I rate it 9 out of 10
