This book is about a boy named Gorge who thinks life can’t get any worse, until he punches a stone gargoyle and his life takes a turn for the worse. Suddenly all of the gargoyles, statues, busts and basically anything like a statue comes to life. Gorge will need the help of Eddie, a glint who can see hidden messages in certain items that are otherwise junk, and The Gunner, a kind and helpful statue who helps them along on their quest to get Gorge back where he belongs.
Favorite Part: I like it when gorge fights the dragon because of all of the description and all of the powerful words used to make it feel like you are a speculator of a great battle.
Highlight: My highlight is The Gunner because he never had to help these kids, and yet he readily and repeatedly risks his life for the safety of Gorge and Eddie.

Why did I like it or not: I Liked this book because it is the type of book that sucks you in and feels like you are in another dimension of the world, when you are really curled up in a cozy corner looking like a zombie.

BOOK REVIEW: Lawless

Realistic fiction, action, crime, school, art heists.

Grades 4-7, content, 7 ½ , because the words are a little advanced for a 7 year old. No blood, no gore, no cussing. FINAL RATING… E 7 ½ +

M is an 11 year old girl whose dad died in a plane crash. M home schooled herself for her whole life until she finds out that her dad went to a crazy school that trains you to be a criminal. Now M wants to go too. She does, but on her journey there she gets attacked by evil masked dudes. Who are they, and will M survive?? MY favorite part is the BOX because it can replicate real scenarios. That is really cool.

SPOILERS!!!! DO NOT READ UNTIL DONE WITH THE BOOK!!!!!! I thought it was cool that through the story M is a Fullbright.

I like this book because it is creative and there are lots of very surprising twists in the story.

ARTEMIS FOWL the ARTIC INCIDENT by Eion Colfer, Andrew Donkin, Giovanni Rigano, and Palo Lamanna is an awesome comic for ages 9-14. This sequel is all about Artemis Fowl, the young genius without a father. Back in Haven city, things are getting crazy. Holly Short is on duty when goblins with tin foil armor shoot down her partner. She chases them down to find that they have built a shuttle! The stupid goblin flies into the lava and drops his gun. Holly looks , and it is powered by batteries! Could humans be in league with the goblins?

I think it is funny when the gang has to crawl through waste.

I think that Artemis will eventually turn good, because he is starting to help out people more.

I liked this comic because I am a fan of the series and the drawings are very good.

This is the 6th book about middle school dork, Nikki Maxwell written by New York Times Bestselling Series Author, Rachel Renee Russell. This drama-filled book about a teen who is extremely insecure, a great illustrator, and overall a total dork. It is about gathering the courage to ask her crush to go to the biggest dance of the year, an “evil” popular girl, and being cyberbullied, and an embarrassing photo. I like the fact that it practically screams to be true to yourself, and to feel free to stand up to do something that is right.

My favorite part was “Miss Bri-Bri.” I find that part hilarious, but others with a smaller sister who often experience this, might not feel so compelled to burst out laughing, probably more like groan in sympathy. I like the fact that there is a VERY wacky character in this book. (Brianna!) : ) I also enjoyed that Nikki gets her revenge on MacKenzie by making her jump into a dumpster. But, just remember, getting back isn’t always the answer. Just because its payback, doesn’t mean it’s right.

My highlight was the “pictures” to give you more of a reality-like experience in the whole prom thing. I thought it was an ingenious touch on Russell’s part. It gave you a glimpse of the outfits, the characters and the personality of the book. I love how basically it shows how a rotten messes can turn out to work just fine!

I enjoyed this book because it has such of a fantastic combo of comedy, weirdness, and a strong morale. It worked perfectly for Russell (in my opinion) because I wanted to re-read her other books, and it made me want to read this book OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. It was so good, I couldn’t put it down!

Artemis Fowl the graphic novel is a great comic for fans of the books. The book is all about a young evil master mind whose name is Artemis Fowl. His warped mind has been working and studying for one thing, and that thing is to capture a fairy. He travels to Ho Chi Minh city to find their book, or bible because it contains all their secrets. He does, and learns that all fairies have to recharge all their magic at an ancient tree he goes there, and waits for a fairy to arrive.

It bothered me how Butler continually hit the troll 7 times with a mace, then shot it 7 more times. And when it was defeated, he was going to shoot it in the face. Why?

My highlight for today is Artemis. I just noticed that at the beginning he was evil, and by the end he was nice. Kind of.

I liked this book because I am a good fan of the books and I thought it was interesting to see all the characters drawn.

Nat Geo’s weird but true is a book that will blow your brain right out of your head. On the cover it says “300 OUTRAGEOUS facts” and boy!, are they right! Here are some examples: “Did you know that octopuses have 3 hearts?” “Did you know that the scientific name for a gorilla is Gorilla Gorilla?” Did you know that the tallest wave to reach land was taller than the Empire State Building? Those are just some facts from this mind blowing book.

My favorite fact is- the tallest wave to reach land was taller than the Empire State Building.

I liked this book because it blew my mind. Lots and lots of times.

BOOK REVIEW: The American Revolution

Reprint of the 1958 book, in 1986 by Random house.

Nonfiction, history, war, U.S. history

Reading level, grades 4-6 content, ages 8-12 there is no blood, or very little. But the words are a little hard to understand.

If you liked any history books about the American Revolution you will like this informative book.

The American revolution by Bruce Bliven, Jr. is a fact filled book that will take you on a detailed adventure that covers many important battles such as Valley Forge. You can “watch” as the rebellious Americans take on the British and win against tremendous odds. It has detailed maps so you can really know what’s going on, and a few pictures of the rebel’s forts and historic buildings. If you want to know about the American revolution, this is the book for you!

My favorite part is when there is a picture of an old fort with lots of cannons. That is cool.

I think we should all notice when the Americans were cold, and hungry, and hurt, they just kept on fighting. We should take that as a lesson and never give up.

I like the book because I can connect with the soldiers in the battlefield because I play outside and get hurt sometimes, and just imagine how worse it would have been for the soldiers.

This is a moving tale about a small mouse named Fredle who is cast out of his comfortable home and out into the real, and somewhat terrifying, outside. But getting home is harder then one mouse would think. To get home he must face new enemies, make new friends, gain new-found confidence, and finally see the sun, moon and stars. When he gets back, however, he finds that he left his heart in the outdoors.

I like Fredle’s amazement at seeing the stars up close for the first time in his life. A turning point in the story is when Fredle finds the strength to be tough and stand up for himself. I like because it is amazing to see the outside world trom a mouse’s point of view; it makes me gratefull for the safety we humans have in our life and strength.
