BOOK REVIEW: The Lightning Thief

BE PREPARED, IF YOU READ THIS, THERE ARE SPOILERS!!!!

Series Title: Percy Jackson

Author: Rick Riordian

Genre: Adventure, Fantasy, Fiction and Greek Mythology

Suggested age range: 10-12, Reading level: Easy-ish and short (375 pages) chapter book.

If you liked this book, try; The Kane Chronicles, Heroes of Olympus, N.E.R.D.S. and the rest of the Percy Jackson series.

This is the first book of this engaging book series about a kid named Percy Jackson. (Duh!) This first book goes through his tough times in school to him finding out about his “God/Mortal” linage and all the way up to Zeus himself claiming that a son of Poseidon has stolen his priceless (and nuclear) thunderbolt. TA-DA! And up pops Percy, and wow, he’s a son of Poseidon, too! So he must go on a long quest. Did he actually steel it? And why does Annabeth hate him so much?
My favorite part in the book is when Percy Fights with Ares for the Helm of Darkness. And Ares doesn’t expect a wimpy demigod to totally whip his butt! He totally didn’t see it coming!
My highlight is Hermes. He is, as usually portrayed, extremely kind and cunning. I think he should have mixed it up, and he certainly did with Luke!

I liked this book because it had all of the action and adventure of a good novel, and it had the perfect combo of humor in the mix, too! Great job, Rick Riordan!

I rate it 9 9/10 out of 10
